ENTRY #01 FROM THE PRIVATE WATCHER'S DIARY OF RUPERT GILES.

I met her today.

The Slayer.

My Slayer.

The girl who alone will stand against the vampires, the demons and the forces of darkness.

The Chosen One. The one born with the strength and skill to hunt the vampires, to stop the spread of their evil.

It was not an auspicious start.

This girl is meant to save the world. She is meant to rid it of vampires and demons and werewolves and incubi and succubiand, rid it of all evil. And she is not interested.

She is flippant. She is untrained. She is untaught. She is unprepared. She is not ready.

It is up to me make her serious. To train her. To teach her. To prepare her. To make her ready.

She is my Slayer. I am her Watcher.

It has been that way for generation. It will be that way for generations after she has gone.

She slays. I teach her how to slay.

And that is what I shall do.

She is only a child, a child with added strength and ability, but still a child. She will succumb to my will. She will do her job. Her duty. She will be the Slayer. She will stand between the world and darkness. She will slay evil.

She has to. It is how it has always been.

She will follow the rules. She will study the Slayers' Handbook. She will learn that it is her destiny to be the Slayer. She will learn to forego a social life. She will accept the limitations involved in forming friendships.

She will be like any other Slayer.

And I will be like any other Watcher.
