The arrival of summer brings a spate of crimes that keep the team at the office virtually 24/7. Finally things calm down.

Gibbs & Ducky gen.

Written: May 2009. Word count: 300.

Even Gibbs, the man who seemed to need very little sleep (although he had to admit, as he was getting older he found he needed more) was exhausted. He didn't know what it was, but each year the onset of summer brought what Ducky had dubbed 'silly season'.

Whether it was the sun, the promise of long days, or memories of weeks away from school, or just chance, Gibbs didn't know. All he knew was they had more on-top-of-one-another crimes during this season than at any other time.

He glanced away from DiNozzo's report and looked at his field team. They all looked as he felt: utterly exhausted. None of them were even trying to pretend to work; Gibbs didn't blame them.

He looked at his watch; it was 5:30 a.m. For the first time in seven days there was no new case and the loose ends of the outstanding cases were tied up, at least enough for them to take a break.

He was suddenly aware someone was standing in front of his desk and looked up. "Hey, Duck."

"Jethro." If anything, Ducky looked less tired than the others, but Gibbs knew that was merely Ducky putting on an 'I'm not old' front. "Here is the final report on Mr. Quinn."

"Thanks, Duck. You didn't have to bring it up."

"I thought I would remind you that one is only capable of performing at one's full capacity for a certain length of time. After which -"

"You trying to tell me it's time for us all to take a break?"

"Well, yes. I am."

Gibbs glanced at his sleepy team, "Palmer still in Autopsy?"

Ducky nodded. "Yes, and Abigail is still in her lab."

"In that case. Breakfast for all, my place."

Ducky smiled. "Your special eggs?"

Gibbs nodded. "Yep."
