Doyle tells Bodie something.

"I love you, Bodie."

 

Bodie began to laugh. "Nice one, mate," he said. "But April Fool's Day was a fortnight ago."

 

His laughter faded as he saw the colour began to drain from Ray's face, and the usual sparkle in the green eyes vanished.

 

He swallowed. "You're kidding, right? Aren't you, Ray?"

 

Then realisation dawned.

 

"You're not kidding, are you?" he said, his mouth suddenly dry.

 

Ray looked at him. All hints of animation had faded from him. "I might have known it was bleeding stupid to tell you."

 

He turned and strode away.

 

"Ray," Bodie called after him. "Ray."
