When his grandmother told him he would one day be a spy, Illya had been dubious.

 

When she told him he would live in America, he had not believed her.

 

When she told him he would have a male lover, he had laughed.

 

He was Russian. America and male lovers were forbidden to him.

 

His grandmother had sworn it was true. She, like her mother before her, had the ability to divine the future.

 

Illya had shaken his head. He did not believe in oracles.

 

Four decades later his American male lover and he retired from the business of espionage.
