Something is wrong with Steel.

An established relationship story.

Written: April 2009. Word count: 300.

There was something wrong with Steel. Except there couldn't be anything wrong with him. He, none of the elements, became 'sick'.

Silver knew that.

But he knew something else too: he knew Steel. He was familiar with every aspect of his lover; his body, his mind, his powers. And knowing this made him certain something was wrong. All the signs were there.

Steel's normal body temperature was well below a human's. Well below Silver's. But now it was even lower. Not much lower, nothing that anyone who wasn't intimately acquainted with Steel would have noticed.

But Silver had

He noticed something else too: Steel's strength seemed to have diminished. Again not by much, nothing even Sapphire would notice.

But Silver had

And then there was the way Steel looked. He'd always been pale, but recently he'd become ashen. And his eyes had changed colour; they were no longer the colour of steel but a pale grey. Again few, if any would have noticed.

But Silver had

And then there was telepathy. It was Steel's preferred method of communicating and he did it seamlessly. But now and then Silver 'heard' him stumble over a word. It was minor, it was infrequent, it was unlikely anyone would have noticed.

But Silver had

Something was definitely wrong. But Silver didn't know what to do. What to say. He was familiar enough with Steel to know his lover would not want him to make a fuss. Would not want him to say anything.

Had Steel even noticed? Silver couldn't be sure. Surely he had to have, yet oft-times Steel didn't notice the small things. And all the changes were small. He may not have noticed.

But Silver had

And he knew all he could do was to watch and wait - at least for now.
