Raffles and Bunny are in Raffles's rooms and Raffles tells Bunny something.

A first time story.

Written: March 2012. Word count: 500.

We were sitting at either end of Raffles's sofa; two glasses of his fine whisky were on the table behind the sofa and we each had a Sullivan. We had been in his rooms for about twenty minutes having returned from an excellent dinner at our club.

Raffles had been particularly attentive towards me before, during and after dinner; in fact it seemed as if he had been almost fussing over me in a way I had never seen before. Prior to us leaving to walk back to the Albany, he had even gone so far as to help me on with my coat, and it had been he who had put my hat on my head before taking my arm as we went out into the cool night air.

Now as we sat talking about cricket one minute, the second test for which he had been selected was due to start next week, and a necklace he had set his heart on owning the next, I noticed he was watching me carefully. His steady gaze rarely left my face and his fingertips occasionally brushed mine as we both had our arms alone the back of his sofa. I did not believe the contact, certainly not after the first two occasions, was accidental; he was deliberately letting his fingers touch mine.

"You know, Bunny," he suddenly said, breaking off from telling me of his plans to obtain the necklace. "If you want me to kiss you, you only have to ask." He fell silent and stared at me with increased intensity.

I stared back at him, wondering if I had actually heard the words or if I had merely imagined them. For a moment I didn't know what to say, I knew what I wanted to say, but a small part of me was still not completely certain he really had said the words.

However, the way his eyes blazed as he stared at me and the faint smile on his lips, plus the way he had moved without me being aware he'd moved and was now caressing my hand made me believe I had heard the words.

Thus I asked.

And he acted.

Some time later as I lay in his loose embrace in his bed my head resting on his shoulder, he said softly, "Do you know how long I've been waiting for you to ask me to kiss you?"

I lifted my head in order to see his face. "No," I murmured.

He smiled and to my surprise a faint flush touched his cheeks. He brushed my hair back, tucking it behind my ear before tracing my cheekbone with the finger he uses to make cricket balls do puzzling things, and then he spoke. "Ever since the day I first met you at school."

My lips parted slightly in surprise at his confession; he smiled his gentle, lazy, loving smile before he cupped his hand behind my head and pulled it down until my lips met his.
