Barbara Lynley nẻe Havers was, had always been, a passionate woman.

She did nothing by halves.

When she cared; she cared.

When she loved; she loved.

When she hated; she hated.

Therefore, when she had taken the decision to call Tommy by his given name, thus sealing their futures, she had entered into his life fully.

Tommy stood and watched her, eight months pregnant, campaigning to help keep their local primary school open.

And suddenly he knew: she had saved him.

She had rescued him from what had been his meaningless life, and with her passion had given him meaning.
