"Do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband to live together in marriage? Do you promise to love, comfort, honor, and keep him. For better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health. And forsaking all others, be faithful only to him so long as you both shall live?"
"I do," murmured Jethro Gibbs for the fourth time in his life.
He sat up with a start and glanced around him, blinking frantically as he looked for the chapel and all the people - but all he saw was only his bedroom. "Damn," he murmured, untangling an arm from the covers. It had seemed so real; he could almost taste the scene. For a second he closed his eyes and tried to slip back into the place, but the flickering lights from the city that never truly slept intruded through the lids.
A small movement next to him made him look down, and instantly a smile touched his lips. The body lying next to him was warm and firm - comforting in a way he'd never been, had never wanted to be, comforted. Bending over he brushed the overly long fringe out of the closed eyes and kissed the warm forehead. The body responded by moving nearer to him and cuddling closer to his body, making small contented noises while asleep.
Kissing the soft lips this time, Jethro whispered, "I would if I could, Duck. I would if I could." Then he gathered his lover into his arms, taking care not to wake him, and settled down again to return to sleep.
