Ziva is aware she is falling in love, but is she being foolish?

An established relationship story.

Written: September 2012. Word count: 500.

Ziva lay on the couch with her head in Jeanne's lap enjoying the way Jeanne's fingers kept tangling in her hair and stroking her scalp. A box of chocolates was on the arm of the couch and from time to time Jeanne would feed Ziva a chocolate.

As she gazed up into Jeanne's eyes and obligingly parted her lips to allow Jeanne to give her another chocolate, Ziva felt just a little silly; she had never done anything like this before and she was not certain if she enjoyed it or not. Or rather she was almost a little afraid that she did enjoy it; that she enjoyed it a great deal.

And it was not just lying on the couch with her head on Jeanne's lap, letting Jeanne play with her hair and feed her chocolates that Ziva found herself enjoying; she enjoyed every moment she spent with Jeanne. In fact she found herself missing Jeanne when she did not see her, she found herself thinking of Jeanne several times a day, sending her short text messages and smiling when Jeanne replied to her.

She could not remember ever feeling this way, ever feeling so free and so relaxed and so happy. Jeanne was not her first female lover, but she was different from any other lover Ziva had ever had. Jeanne loved and was open and caring and not afraid to show her feelings, not afraid to do things that might be considered silly.

Until she had become involved with Jeanne, Ziva could not remember ever doing anything that could be considered silly before, but now she did. But it was not just doing things that might be considered foolish that worried Ziva a little. What troubled her even more was that she knew she was falling in love with Jeanne; and she did not know if by doing so she was being really foolish.

When it came down to it they had little in common apart from memories of a man they had both loved and lost. And yet they never ran out of things to talk about or things to do; sensible things, silly things, romantic things, day to day things; Ziva enjoyed every one of them, because she did them with Jeanne.

But was it right? Were they right for one another? Did they have a future together? Could they make the relationship not only work but last? Did Jeanne feel the same way about her as Ziva felt about Jeanne? Did Jeanne want a lasting relationship? Did she want to spend the rest of her life with Jeanne? Or was Ziva just being foolish?

She felt Jeanne's fingers tangle in her hair more tightly and pull just a little and she blinked and looked into Jeanne's eyes, smiling a little as she felt Jeanne's fingers brush over her lips. And in that instant she knew: foolish or not, Jeanne Benoit was the person with whom she wanted to spend the rest of her life.
