"Yes, Dr. Hampton, I'll tell him. Thank you for letting us know." Jimmy spoke with a politeness he didn't feel. He replaced the receiver, grabbed the desk calendar and made a note of his boss's absence through illness.

Before calling Agent Gibbs he studied the calendar, noting how often during the last three months Dr. Mallard had been sick. Jimmy frowned: twenty days; he hadn't realized it'd been so many, but calendars don't lie.

He didn't like it. He couldn't put his finger on it, he had no evidence, it wasn't logical, but he had a feeling the illnesses weren't - He stopped. What was he thinking? He was about to 'accuse' his beloved boss of faking, or lying about, his illness.

But it wasn't his boss he was accusing. It was Jordan Hampton. His 'gut' was telling him she was up to something. He'd never liked her, not from the second she'd presumed to call him 'Jim'. Now it wasn't just that he disliked her; he didn't trust her.

He didn't know what she up to, whether it was Dr. Mallard she wanted or his money, he just knew she had a plan. And he had to do something. He had to tell someone about his suspicions. He had to tell someone who wouldn't laugh. Someone who cared about the doctor. Someone who had the power to do something.

He grabbed the phone. "Special Agent Gibbs; it's Jimmy Palmer. There's something I need to tell you and I don't want to do it over the phone. Could you come down to Autopsy, please? It's about Dr. Mallard." He hung up without waiting for a reply.

Moment later the doors swished open and Agent Gibbs strode in.

Jimmy took a deep breath. "Agent Gibbs," he said. "I'm worried about Dr. Mallard."
