IS SHE READY?

Ashleigh Anpilova
Jenny takes stock of her new position.
A Jenny-centric gen story.
Written: August 2009. Word count: 200.
She looks around the office; her office. Part of her still can't believe she's standing behind the desk belonging to the Director of NCIS. The desk that's now hers. Her desk. Her office. Her agency. On the desk is a small pot of violets, a gift for her from Tom Morrow.
She's here. She's made it. All the years, the hard work, the sacrifices she's made, have finally paid off. She's fulfilled her ambition. She's the Director of NCIS. But should she be? Is she ready to be?
She'd thought she was. She'd been fast-tracked and always knew she'd gain a directorship while still young in terms of agency directors. And she has. But is she ready?
She recalls her conversation with Jethro in MTAC. Is she ready to put the past behind her, to move from being his subordinate to his boss? Until she'd seen him again she'd thought she could; now she's not certain. The old instincts to defer to him had flooded back. Will they keep returning? She doesn't know. She doesn't know if she's ready.
But ready or not, she's here. Ready or not she is the Director of NCIS. For now, that'll have to do.
