"You're here, Timmy!" Abby cried, bouncing into her lab where McGee sat staring at the computer screen. "I've been looking for you."

"Hey, Abby."

Abby frowned at the tone in his voice and hurried over to him. She put her arm around his shoulders. "What's the matter?"

He shrugged. "Nothing."

She turned him around on the stool so he was facing her and not the computer, cupped his face between her hands, and stared at him. "Timothy," she said firmly, "tell me what the matter is."

He gave her a half-smile, then looked away. "I screwed up," he said.

She blinked. "Screwed what up?"

"The case. Well, not the case, but I screwed up, Abby. Gibbs let me lead and I screwed up."

She shook her head. "No, you didn't. You figured it out. The case was solved. The bad guy caught. You didn't screw up."

"Abby, I spent most of my time babbling away about jet packs. I even went on and on about them to Gibbs. I must have annoyed everyone, including you," he added quietly.

"You could never annoy me, Timmy," she said.

He flashed her another half-smile. "Maybe not 'annoy', but you must have been bored. And the others they -"

"Did anyone say anything?"

He shrugged. "Not really. Sure Gibbs head-slapped me and Tony and Ziva tried to keep out of my way. But other than that they . . . Abby, they indulged me. Even Gibbs indulged me."

She beamed at him. "That's because everyone really likes you, Timmy. They do," she added, when he looked skeptically at her. "It's like putting up with Tony's film quotes and Ziva's obsession with knives and Ducky's stories and -"

He silenced her by kissing her. Somehow Abby always made him feel better. "Thanks, Abby," he said, and indulged himself some more.
