Fraser compares the scent of two lovers.
An established relationship story.

I will never forget her scent: gentle, feminine, cold, dark.
Dark.
Darkness.
That is what I smell whenever I think of Victoria.
Darkness. Bitterness. Evilness.
I try not to think of her too often.
Ray's scent is completely different: intense, masculine, warm, light.
Light.
Lightness.
That is what I smell whenever I think of Ray.
Lightness. Sweetness. Goodness.
I think of him often.
Ray is all that is good in my life. All that is right. All that is clean. All that is worthy.
Animals distinguish by scent.
I do it too.
Between Ray and Victoria there is no comparison.
